DOT Testing Services

As part of the U.S.Department of Transportation’s (DOT) commitment to safety for workers and the general public, dot drug and alcohol testing services are required for what the department considers “safety-sensitive” employees. These employees work as part of the teams that provide transportation services in the air, on the roads, across the rails, and in the water – both overland and underground.

Drug Testing

To stay DOT Complaint all employers have to implement and conduct drug testing programs. Although there are several ways to perform a drug test, DOT allows only using drug testing. 

DOT Urine drug test consist of testing for: Marijuana | Cocaine | Amphetamines | Opiates | Phencyclidine (PCP)

All CDL employers have to take the pre-employment drug tests during their hiring process. An employer must receive a negative drug test result before permitting a CDL driver to operate a CMV.

Random tests must use a truly random selection process – each employee must have an equal chance to be selected and tested. These are completed quarterly.

Is required after a violation of drug and alcohol rules. You can’t return to any DOT job before being tested and may be subject to unannounced testing at least 6 times in first 12 months. These tests must be conducted under direct observation.

Follow-up testing that takes place after return-to-duty. A Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) manages the follow-up testing for up to 5 years, determining how many times an employee is tested, and for what substance. These are completed in addition to other DOT required testing.

Medical Examination

Medical examination is a health examination mandated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers.

A DOT physical helps determine if a driver is physically, mentally, and emotionally fit to operate a commercial vehicle.

Our DOT approved medical examiners have the necessary qualifications to ensure that your commercial driver’s license carrying employees meet all federal requirements.

Breath Alcohol Testing

This test is commonly called a “breathalyzer” or a “BAT,” is an instant screening that determines precisely how much alcohol a person has in their breath. Breath alcohol testing is recognized as one of the fastest and simplest ways to detect the alcohol use.

Breath alcohol test can be required if an employee was involved in an accident, or be used as a part of workplace alcohol testing programs.
